In Quindlen’s short story A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many, One? she goes on to compare how America is built off of refugees and everyone is different. She compares the Arab cabbies to Jewish passengers, blacks to whites, gays to straights, left to right, Pole to Chinese, and Puerto Rican and Solvenian. She uses the idea of a quilt to compare it to the United States because were all different pieces that come together to form something magnificent, despite some drawbacks it might have.
I couldn’t agree with her more completely, I mean not everyone is going to get along with people. Your going to have some people that are set in their ways and do what they want to do. And big things like terrorist attacks and nation wide tragedies bring everyone closer due to the fact that something like this brings people together because they have that one things in common, for example the Arab cabbie and the Jewish passenger both could have lost someone in the World Trate Center accident.
I agree, i dont think anyone will ever agree with everyone.
ReplyDeleteI do agree, people will not always agree with each other but at least we get alone for the most part. Yes there are gangs and ignorant people that don’t what to get alone with one specific group but what can one do. One great example I am Puerto Rican and one of my friends is Venezuelan and we both live now in Miami he is a great friend nice and everything. The only thinks is that he is in favor of Chaves communist ideas while I think Chaves will be the next Castro. Knowing that we both disagree on this topic we never bring it up.
ReplyDeleteValid point my manz
ReplyDeleteI really do believe it is awesome how our country is made up of different races, religions and cultures and yet still able to coexist. Better yet, we are able to all come together as one and comfort each other during nation wide tragedies.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you about how we all wont get along. Some people decide to not get along with someone because of something they cant control. 911 may have brought everyone together. Except when it had to do with someone who was any kind of middle eastern. People who were of middle eastern background were considered "suspicious" whenever they were in an airport.
ReplyDeleteWow! Look at all those comments!
